eGovernment Transformation Plan
The eGovernment Transformation Plan is a national project that aims at accomplishing the full e-transformation in the government transactions to assure a sustainable knowledgeable society. It seeks as well enhancing the quality of the government services and the method of providing them as per certain regulations, standards and timing stages to meet the goals of simplifying the services for the citizens, business works and governmental entities.
In His address to Oman Council in November 2008, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos directed the Government to simplify the processes, adopt technology in the daily operation, and focus on electronic delivery of its services; hence eGovernment Transformation Strategy was approved by the Ministerial Cabinet. Clear instructions and targets were given to all government agencies to improve the quality of the eServices provided to the public.
The idea of the eGovernment is to create an official portal that contains all the governmental services by hosting them in the portal via the function of integration or by providing a link.
Information Technology Authority is the governmental entity that concerns of observing and following up the implementation of the transformation strategy. It drives Oman in the use of ICT towards delivering the governmental services in a simple and electronic method especially in the cases that need dealing with more than one institution. Efforts are concerted between ITA and the other entities as shown in the following equation:

In order to ensure the wide access of the portal with simpler types of mobile phones, a mobile version of the portal has been designed and implemented to enable the browsing of government services and information in all types of mobile phones. You can get this version at http://m.oman.om .

Measurement and Assessment
ITA works annually in assessing the progress and performance of government entities with respect to various areas and factors that contribute to accomplishing the transformation of eGovernment. To ensure that government agencies, as a whole, meet the national targets, ITA has established an eGovernment Transformation Assessment System and a measurement process to know the progress that the entity has fulfilled in accordance to the transformation plan. As a result of this assessment, a report will be issued annually on the progress of every government entity and will be shared with the Ministerial Cabinet.
